Home & living

Everyday home products: furniture, bedding, decor, storage, bathroom and tableware.

This is the category most easily misjudged - tableware is not mandatory, but ceramic tiles and safety glass, which sit in the same catalogue, are.

What this category covers

Bamboo tableware, ceramic tableware, storage baskets, plastic storage, kitchen textiles and rattan ornaments.

What these goods have to clear

China

Tableware is not in the CCC catalogue (ceramic, glass, bamboo-and-wood and plastic tableware have no entries). But a few items are easy to misread: the catalogue's 'XIV. Building materials' group covers solvent-based wood coatings, porcelain tiles and safety glass - those making tiles, wood coatings or safety glass are inside CCC, whereas those making ceramic tableware are not. Where children's products are involved, group 'XV. Children's products' covers prams, toys and child restraint systems for motor vehicles.

Food contact falls under GB 4806.12-2022 (bamboo and wood), .4-2016 (ceramics), .5-2016 (glass), .3-2016 (enamel) and .7-2023 (plastics), by material, with the general standard GB 4806.1-2016.

Kitchen textiles and aprons fall under GB 18401-2010, a mandatory standard divided into class A (products for infants and young children) / class B (in direct contact with the skin) / class C (not in direct contact with the skin). One point that matters greatly for an export site: the standard applies to textile products produced, sold and used within China; products for export may be governed by contract and are not mandatorily subject to it - so the compliance route for a purely export order differs from that for domestic sale.

European Union

The food-contact part is covered by the FCM framework ((EC) 1935/2004 and others). Ceramic articles have their own directive, 84/500/EEC, which sets migration limits for lead and cadmium and requires a declaration of compliance, supplemented by 2005/31/EC with performance criteria for the method of analysis; the directive still applies. We have not captured the full set of limit bands: we have verified that 'type 1' is cadmium ≤4 μg/dm² and lead ≤6 μg/dm²; the remaining bands and the figures in the directive text are not verified.

General product safety falls under GPSR (EU) 2023/988. Where household appliances are involved, see also LVD / EMC / ErP - not verified, and this page does not list specific clauses.

United States

Textile flammability 16 CFR 1610 classifies fabrics into three levels, with Class 3 the most dangerous and prohibited from sale; there is also 16 CFR 1611 (vinyl plastic film). Mattresses under 16 CFR 1632 / 1633 and carpets under 16 CFR 1630 / 1631 do not currently apply to our home category - they are recorded here only so that no one later applies these standards loosely to 'household goods' as a whole. Children's products have additional CPC certificate and third-party testing requirements, not verified.
